THE ART EXHIBIT CRITIQUE REPORT

“Archive No. 11” – St. Edwardโ€™s Photography Senior Exhibit
Photography Seniors Class of 2026 – Group Exhibit Opening Reception 03/27/2026
As part of the assignments in โ€œTextile Artโ€, I attended the Photography & Media Arts Senior
exhibition “Archive No. 11” at St. Edwardโ€™s University Fine Art gallery, Austin (TX). The Exhibition
was on display from March 27 through April 10, 2026.

  1. Description – The Artists and Art:
In the 2026 Senior exhibit presented 11 photography students their capstone projects during the
Senior Year. On display were Photography and Media Art pieces, made using digital media as
well as traditional film techniques while giving insights into the personal history and individual
interests of the students. The individual displayed collections included different styles of Self
Portraiture, Story telling via Posters and Photo books, Multi-Media Collages, Alternative
Processing techniques on textile, up to Classic Memento Mori related Still Live images
  2. Analysis – The mood of the Exhibition:
The Students displayed primary works rooted in their personal experiences and interests. The
collections had a certain somber, yet atmospheric feel. This was achieved through partially
monochromatic images, deliberately clear themes, and also through a variety ranging from more
classic memento mori works to modern mixed media. The focus of all the collections was clearly
    on very personal aspects.
  3. Interpretation – Experience in 3 Examples
I selected only 3 Examples Collections to interpret. One Collections referenced a Studentโ€™s
dramatic personal experiences which is conveyed to the viewer through large prints with
compelling text. Another collection revolved around a photo book about a religious story of a
young female. A black dress with a cross displayed in a gathered position and complementary
prints on white silk made the theme tangible. A โ€œfamily patchwork quiltโ€ made of fine blue
Cyanotype prints on delicate fabric allows the viewer very personal insights into the studentโ€™s
    family life and environment.
  4. Judgment – an impressive collection
The 2026 Student Exhibition was a great display of personal insights. It was clear and in general
the themes matched to depict a unified mood. There was no need for changes or adjustments as
everything harmonized in a very unique way. It was a high standard which gives me inspiration for
my own 2027 upcoming Senior project and collection. I really liked the moody atmosphere and the
and the styles, which were actually so different, but together formed a coherent concept.
