In this project, I will design and create a full black crochet coat using shell and netting stitches to explore texture and structure. I will develop multiple sketches, collect research images, and test yarn samples before beginning production. I will use Brushed Rainbow, Petite Purl, and Baby Soft Bamboo Cotton yarn in black tones to create visual depth. I will track my materials, budget, and time throughout the process. After organizing my sketches, research, color plan, materials list, and samples into a single published design proposal page, I will move into production and complete the coat according to my finalized plan.

Design Proposal for Final Project
For my final project, I propose designing and constructing a full-length black crochet coat that investigates texture, structure, and material contrast within a monochromatic framework. The project centers on the intentional use of shell stitch and netting stitch to create variation in density, transparency, and surface rhythm. Rather than relying on color contrast, the design will emphasize textile differences and stitch architecture to define form and movement.
The coat will be developed using Brushed Rainbow yarn, Petite Purl yarn, and Baby Soft Bamboo Cotton yarn in midnight black. These materials were selected to examine how differences in fiber content, softness, and weight influence drape and structural integrity. By limiting the palette to black, the project highlights craftsmanship, construction precision, and textural interplay.
This proposal outlines a structured design process that includes sketch development, visual research, stitch sampling, budgeting, and documented production. Sample swatches will test gauge, durability, and compatibility between yarn types before full construction begins. These samples will be added to this page once the yarn has arrived. Time management and cost tracking will support the practical execution of the garment.
The final outcome will be a wearable fiber piece that demonstrates technical control, material awareness, and deliberate design planning. This project integrates research, experimentation, and disciplined production into a cohesive and resolved garment.

Size: 5’9″
The color scheme for this project will be fully black.
